Plane-parts seller looking at old tire plant BY BILL WILSON The Wichita Eagle
An Augusta aircraft parts distributor has added investors and could expand in Wichita.

Wichita oilman Dave Murfin and businessman Scott Hall, partners in Global Parts Inc., have filed for industrial zoning for the former Mid-Continent Tire and Rubber plant at 1000 E. 13th St.

The building will be renovated next spring, Hall said, with an eye toward a possible expansion of Global Parts, operated by Troy Palmer.

The 53,700-square-foot building was the home of Air Capital Mattress, a manufacturing business owned by Dean Schlabach and Bud Palmer.

Hall said Global Parts has expanded its inventory of older aircraft parts.

'It's been a good, solid business for three or four years,' said Hall, who owns Hall Industrial.

'The opportunity came up for them to purchase a significant quantity of legacy parts, so a group of investors came together that now owns part of Global Parts to assist them with that.'

Murfin, president, and chief financial officer Bob Young said the building was purchased to be home to a 'new business housing aircraft parts.'

'It's got absolutely nothing to do with the oil and gas business,' he said.

But Hall said the building's future is up in the air.

'At this point, it may have shifted a little bit because they want to stay close to their current operations in Augusta,' he said
