Kuala Lumpur - A drunken man who set his mattress on fire managed to burn down his entire village in the eastern Sabah state on Borneo island, leaving more than 200 people homeless, a news report said Thursday. The 29-year-old jobless man was believed to have had a fight with his wife before setting a mattress on fire in his home located within an illegal squatter area, said acting district police chief Ooi Guan Siew. The fire spread rapidly and destroyed 40 other homes in the same village of Muhibbah in Sandakan district, 400km from Kota Kinabalu, Ooi was quoted as saying by the Star daily.
